Recursive Terms of Use
These Terms of Use ("Terms") govern your access to and use of: (a) our websites, including www.recursive.com and any other site we operate (the "Websites"); (b) any application or software we provide for download or installation, including software development kits, command-line tools, desktop or mobile applications, and inference software (the "Software"); (c) our application programming interfaces (“APIs”), developer console, hosted models, and related documentation (together, the "Hosted Services"); (d) any text, code, images, media, data, information and other materials or content contained on or provided through any of the foregoing, including content generated by our models (the "Content"); and (e) all other products or services we provide to you, as described on our Websites or in our Software, whether accessed online, downloaded or otherwise made available. We call all of these together the "Recursive Services."
These Terms are an agreement between Recursive Superintelligence, Inc., a Delaware corporation, with offices at 1700 Montgomery Street, Suite 210 San Francisco, CA 94111, United States, and its affiliates ("Recursive," "we," "us" or "our") and you. "You" means the person or entity browsing, installing, downloading, accessing or otherwise using the Recursive Services (collectively, "use").
By using the Recursive Services in any way, you (a) represent and warrant that you have reached the age of majority in your jurisdiction (and are at least 18), that you have the capacity to enter into binding obligations, and that all information you give us is true, accurate, current and complete; and (b) agree to be bound by these Terms, as updated from time to time under Section 3. If you use the Recursive Services on behalf of another person or an organization, you represent and warrant that you have authority to bind them, and "you" includes them.
The short version (a summary only; the full Terms below control)
We may train on what you send. If you use our hosted API, you let us use your inputs and the outputs generated for you to train and improve our models, including models we may later publish as open weights. This is a condition of using the hosted service. There is no opt-in or opt-out except where the law gives you one. If you don't want something used this way, don't input it.
Don't send passwords, API keys or other secrets, or personal data. Anything we train on or publish can't be taken back out.
You must be 18 or older, and any free offerings or pre general-release preview can change or end at any time.
As between us, you own what you input and the resulting outputs. Outputs can be wrong, so check them, especially code and anything your tools do automatically.
You may benchmark our models and publish your results.
Model weights and software we publish under an open-source license are governed by that license, not by these Terms.
1. Scope; Open-Source Releases; Additional Terms
1.1 Scope. These Terms apply to every Recursive Service. Some Recursive Services are offered free of charge, some are pre-release, and some may be paid.
1.2 Responsible Use Guidelines. You agree to follow the model documentation, usage guidelines and Acceptable Use Policy we publish at https://www.recursive.com/legal/modelterms#acceptable-use (the "Responsible Use Guidelines"), which are part of these Terms. The model documentation includes information for developers who build on our models and a summary of the content used to train them.
1.3 Open-source releases. We publish some software, model weights and other materials under open-source licenses ("Open-Source Releases"). Your rights in an Open-Source Release are governed solely by its license, and that license prevails over these Terms for those materials. These Terms continue to govern your use of our Websites, our Hosted Services and any other Recursive Service.
1.4 Other agreements and additional terms. If you and Recursive have entered into a separate agreement for a Recursive Service (for example, an enterprise agreement or order form), that agreement controls over these Terms to the extent they conflict. Some Recursive Services may also have additional terms, which are incorporated into these Terms. If an additional term conflicts with these Terms, these Terms govern unless the additional term says otherwise. Third-party software provided with a Recursive Service is governed by its own license.
2. Eligibility
2.1 The Recursive Services are not directed to children.
2.2 You may not access the Recursive Services if you are located in, or ordinarily reside in, a place where the Recursive Services are not lawfully available, or if Section 18 prohibits it.
3. Changes to These Terms and the Recursive Services; Suspension
Changes to These Terms and the Recursive Services; Suspension
3.1 Changes to the Terms. Except where prohibited by law, we may change these Terms at any time. For material changes we will post a new version, update the "Last updated" date, and notify you by email (if we have it), in the console or otherwise as required by law, at least 14 days before the change takes effect, except where a shorter period is needed for legal, security or abuse-prevention reasons. We may require you to accept the updated Terms before you continue using the Recursive Services. If you keep using the Recursive Services after a change takes effect, you accept the updated Terms. If you do not agree, stop using them.
3.2 Changes to the Recursive Services. Except where prohibited by law, we may change any element of the Recursive Services at any time, with or without notice.
3.3 Suspension. We may suspend your access to any Recursive Service, in whole or part: (a) for scheduled maintenance; (b) because of a force majeure event; (c) if we have reason to believe that you may have violated these Terms, the Responsible Use Guidelines or any other usage rules we provide or post; (d) to address an emergency security concern; or (e) if required by a regulator or a change in law. Where practicable and lawful we will give you notice and a may give you a chance to fix the problem, but we may suspend immediately for security, abuse-prevention or legal reasons. If you think a suspension is a mistake, contact support@recursive.com.
3.4 Third-party providers. We may use third parties, including cloud service providers, to provide the Recursive Services.
Accounts
4.1 You may need an account to use certain Recursive Services. Provide true, accurate, current and complete information, and keep it up to date. We may deny or end access if we believe the information is not accurate.
4.2 Keep your login credentials and API keys secret. Do not share, sell, transfer, publish or embed them in client-side code or public repositories. We may act on instructions received through your account. You are solely responsible for all activity under your account and keys, including by anyone you let use them.
4.3 Do not register more than one account, register on behalf of someone who has not authorized it, or create accounts to get around limits. Tell us promptly at security@recursive.com if you suspect unauthorized use or a security breach.
4.4 We may disable any account at any time in our sole discretion.
Customer Data; Use for Training and Improvement
5.1 Definitions. "Customer Data" means all data, information, code, files, prompts, content and records that you, directly or indirectly, load, submit, enter into or transmit to any Recursive Service in connection with these Terms ("Inputs"), together with the content our models generate in response ("Outputs"). "Usage Data" means technical and usage information such as IP address, timestamps, token counts, request metadata, errors, latency and device or client information.
5.2 License to us. You grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free, fully paid-up, perpetual, irrevocable and sublicensable (through multiple tiers) right and license to access, collect, use, copy, process, store, analyze, modify, create derivative works from, disclose and transmit Customer Data and Usage Data to: (a) provide, maintain and secure the Recursive Services; (b) exercise our rights and perform our obligations under these Terms, including checking that you comply with them and with the Responsible Use Guidelines; (c) train, fine-tune, evaluate, test, benchmark, improve and develop our models, software and other products and services, including models and software that we release publicly, such as open-weight models under open-source licenses; and (d) comply with laws (collectively, the “License”).
5.3 Training is a condition of use. Our offering of the Hosted Services, whether free or paid, is conditioned on the License. There is no opt-in and, except as stated in Section 5.6, no opt-out. If you do not want your Customer Data used this way, do not submit it and do not use the Hosted Services pursuant to these Terms.
5.4 Published models. Models trained on Customer Data may be released publicly. Information in Customer Data may be learned by, memorized by or reproduced by our models. Once model weights are published, we cannot remove information from them. We may use commercially reasonable filtering tools to remove credentials and personally identifiable information before training, but we cannot guarantee that it catches everything. You accept this risk. Our License continues after your account is closed or Customer Data is deleted.
5.5 Your rights and responsibilities. You represent and warrant that you have, and will keep, all rights, authorizations, notices and consents needed to submit Customer Data and to grant the License, including for any personal data of other people, and that Customer Data will not violate any law or third-party right. You are responsible for all Inputs that your applications send to us.
5.6 Rights you have under law. If applicable law gives you, or an individual whose personal data is in Customer Data, a right to object to, opt out of or restrict our use of personal data for training, we will honor a valid request as that law requires. Send requests to privacy@recursive.com
5.7 Sharing. We may share Customer Data and Usage Data with our affiliates, with service providers that host, secure, evaluate or process data for us, and with research partners, in each case under confidentiality and use restrictions in accordance with these Terms; as required by law; and in connection with a merger, financing, acquisition or sale of assets.
5.8 Ownership of Customer Data and Outputs. As between you and us, and subject to the License, you keep your rights in your Inputs. You own the copyright rights in the Outputs to the extent permitted by law, and we assign to you any copyright rights we may have in them. Outputs may not be unique, so others may receive similar content, and AI-generated content may not be protected by intellectual property laws.
5.9 Confidentiality and retention. Except under a separate written agreement or as required by law, we do not treat Customer Data as confidential, and we do not guarantee the security of data sent over the internet. We retain Customer Data and Usage Data for as long as reasonably necessary for the License, including in training datasets, as described in our Privacy Policy. You may ask us to delete your account and personal data, and we will do so as the law requires in accordance with Sections 5.4 and 5.6.
5.10 What not to send. Do not submit: personally identifying information or contact information, passwords, API keys, private keys, access tokens or other credentials or secrets; protected health information; payment card data; government identification numbers; biometric data; personal data of children under 13 (or under 16 where local law requires); special categories of personal data under the GDPR (such as health, racial or ethnic origin, religion or sexual orientation); personal information about identifiable individuals other than incidental information that appears in code or documents you have the right to submit; technical data that is export-controlled and requires a license; or information you are obliged to keep confidential and lack the right to share. Coding tools often send whole files, environment variables and terminal output. You are responsible for configuring your tools so that you do not, directly or indirectly, input secrets and/or confidential files.
6. Privacy
Our Privacy Policy at https://www.recursive.com/privacy (the "Privacy Policy") describes how we collect, use and disclose personal information and is part of these Terms. For the purposes in Section 5.2 we act as a controller of personal data in Customer Data and Usage Data. Where we transfer personal data from the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland to a country without an adequacy decision, we rely on the EU Standard Contractual Clauses and the UK Addendum, or another lawful transfer mechanism. Our EU and UK representatives are listed in the Privacy Policy. If you are a business that needs a data processing agreement, contact to privacy@recursive.com
7. Alpha and Other Pre-Release Services
7.1 The alpha. From time to time, we may offer alpha models that are a free, pre general-release, preview offered so developers can test the model in real-world workloads and help us improve it. We may use alpha traffic, as described in Section 5, to measure performance and analyze real-world behavior, including failures, latency and tool use.
7.2 No commitment. The Recursive Services may contain errors, change, be rate-limited, be interrupted or be discontinued at any time. There is no service-level commitment or support, and you should not rely on them, including for production, business-critical or safety-critical use.
7.3 Free access. We do not charge for the alpha models, unless otherwise agreed with you in writing. If we introduce paid features, separate terms will apply and we will not charge you without your agreement.
8. License; Software; Benchmarking
8.1 License. Subject to these Terms, we grant you a non-exclusive, non-transferable, non-sublicensable and revocable license to use the Recursive Services in accordance with these Terms, subject to our rate limits, for your internal business and research purposes and to build, test and evaluate applications. This license does not apply to Open-Source Releases, which have their own licenses. We reserve all rights not expressly granted.
8.2 Software and updates. We may issue updated versions of the Software. Unless we say otherwise, updates are not installed automatically. Software may communicate with our servers to deliver its features, record usage metrics, affect preferences or data stored on your device, and collect personal information as described in our Privacy Policy. We are not responsible if an update affects how the Software works because your other applications or device do/does not support it.
8.3 Benchmarking and evaluation. You may test, benchmark and evaluate our models and Hosted Services and publish the results, provided that you describe the results and your methodology accurately, note that such results are based on use of alpha models, which may change, and do not state or imply that Recursive endorses you or your product. We welcome independent evaluation.
9. Your Responsibilities
You agree to: (a) use reasonable efforts to prevent unauthorized access to or use of the Recursive Services; (b) keep your credentials confidential; (c) monitor and control activity under your account; (d) submit only data to which you hold all required rights, and only in accordance with law; (e) not use anyone else's credentials or try to obtain another user's password or security information; (f) comply with all applicable laws, including intellectual property, data protection and privacy laws; (g) provide your own end users with any terms and privacy notices the law requires, and handle their requests; (h) comply with the Acceptable Use Policy and Privacy Policy; and (i) if your application is used by or directed to minors, comply with applicable children's privacy and safety laws, such as COPPA, the GDPR's rules on children's consent, and California's companion-chatbot law (SB 243), as they apply to you.
10. Acceptable Use
10.1 Acceptable Use Policy. Your use of the Recursive Services must comply with our Acceptable Use Policy at https://www.recursive.com/legal/modelterms#acceptable-use (the 'AUP'), which is part of these Terms. We may update the AUP as it indicates.
10.2 Technical and commercial restrictions. You will not, and will not attempt to or allow others to: (a) circumvent rate limits, quotas or access controls; (b) abuse free access through multiple accounts, automated sign-ups, or by sharing, pooling or reselling keys, or by offering the Hosted Services as a proxy, reseller or substantially identical service; (c) probe or test our systems for vulnerabilities except as the AUP permits; (d) use data mining, robots or scrapers other than through documented APIs or as robots.txt permits, or reverse engineer or decompile the Software or non-public parts of the Recursive Services except as the law or an open-source license allows; or (e) place an unreasonable load on our infrastructure, send spam, or mirror or frame our Websites.
11. Agentic and Code Use
Our models can produce code, commands and tool calls that are incorrect, insecure, destructive or that resemble third-party code, including open-source code. If you let a model act on its own, such as running code, changing files, calling APIs or accessing credentials, you are responsible for sandboxing it, using least-privilege permissions, keeping backups, requiring human approval for consequential actions, and reviewing and testing Outputs before relying on them. You are also responsible for complying with the licenses of any code that appears in Outputs. We are not responsible for actions taken by tools or agents that you or others configure.
12. Fees and Paid Services
12.1 Some Recursive Services may be paid. Prices, billing terms and any subscription terms will be available in the terms of use or other license agreement connected to such paid services.
Ownership; Trademarks; Copyright Complaints
13.1 Our rights. We and our licensors own all rights in the Recursive Services, the Software, our models and all materials we provide, including updates and derivative works, except for Open-Source Releases, which are licensed as stated in their licenses. The Recursive Services are licensed, not sold. You receive no rights except those expressly granted in these Terms. We reserve all other rights.
13.2 Trademarks. "Recursive," model names, and our logos are our trademarks. Do not use them without our written consent or in a way that suggests endorsement or affiliation. Third-party names belong to their owners.
13.3 Copyright complaints. If you believe content on a Recursive Service (including Output) infringes your copyright, send a notice to our designated agent: Legal Department, Recursive Superintelligence, Inc., 1700 Montgomery Street, Suite 210 San Francisco, CA 94111, legal@recursive.com, including the information required by 17 U.S.C. § 512(c)(3). We may remove or disable access to allegedly infringing material and will terminate repeat infringers in appropriate circumstances. If you believe content was removed by mistake, you may send a counter-notice to the same address.
14. Feedback
Any suggestion, idea, bug report, rating or other feedback you give us ("Feedback") is not confidential, and nothing in these Terms restricts our right to use, profit from, disclose, publish or otherwise exploit it without compensation to you. You grant us a worldwide, royalty-free, fully paid, perpetual, irrevocable, sublicensable license to use, reproduce, modify, translate, distribute, perform, display, make, sell and otherwise exploit Feedback in any form, media or technology, and to allow others to do the same, whether you give it on a Recursive Service or by any other means, unless we have a separate agreement with you that says otherwise. Except where prohibited by law, you waive any moral rights in Feedback. Feedback that includes Customer Data is also subject to the terms in Section 5.
15. Third-Party Content, Tools and Services
The Recursive Services may link to or give access to third-party content, websites, tools or services, and you may reach our Hosted Services through third-party platforms, tools such as coding agents, editor plugins and local-model applications. We do not control or endorse them or warrant their quality, accuracy, reliability or fitness for any purpose, and they are governed by their own terms. Content that a third-party tool sends to us on your behalf is treated as your Customer Data. Your dealings with third parties are solely between you and them.
Communications; Electronic Notice
You consent to receive communications from us electronically, by email (if we have it), in the console or by posting on the Recursive Services, and agree that they satisfy any legal requirement that they be in writing. We will send service-related messages to you (including in emails if we have it) about your account. You can unsubscribe from marketing emails at any time; if you withdraw consent to service-related communications, you must stop using the Recursive Services. Our electronic records of your acceptance, including the version accepted and the time, are admissible evidence of your agreement. Keep your contact details current.
17. Malicious Code and Security
Downloading and viewing Content is at your own risk. We do not guarantee that the Recursive Services are compatible with your systems or free of viruses or other harmful code. You are responsible for protecting your own systems and devices and for any resulting repair costs. No system is perfectly secure, and we do not guarantee the security of data sent over the internet.
18. Sanctions and Export Controls
You confirm that you (a) are not located in, organized in, or ordinarily resident in a country or region subject to comprehensive sanctions, such as Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Syria, and the Crimea, the Donetsk and Luhansk regions of Ukraine; (b) are not on, or owned or controlled by anyone on, a restricted-party list of the United States (including the OFAC Specially Designated Nationals list and the Entity List), the European Union, the United Kingdom or the United Nations; and (c) will not use, export or re-export the Recursive Services or Outputs in violation of applicable export control or sanctions laws. We may block access by location, screen sign-ups, and ask for information to verify compliance. You are responsible for any licenses you need for your own use.
19. Term, Suspension and Termination
19.1 These Terms begin when you first use the Recursive Services and continue for as long as you use them or until terminated.
19.2 By you. You may end these Terms at any time by closing your account, ceasing use and deleting any Software.
19.3 By us. We may suspend or end your access, or end these Terms, at any time and for any reason, including a good-faith belief that you have violated these Terms or the Responsible Use Guidelines or engaged in fraud, or because we discontinue a service, or an alpha model period ends. Subject to Section 3.3, where practicable and lawful we will give you notice.
19.4 Survival. Sections 5, 13, 14, 15, 17, 18, 20 to 22, 23 and 24, and any provision that by its nature should survive, survive termination.
20. Disclaimers
Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of certain legal warranties or conditions. If those laws apply to you, some of the exclusions below may not apply and you may have additional rights. To the extent we cannot lawfully disclaim an implied warranty, its scope and duration are the minimum the law permits.
TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, THE RECURSIVE SERVICES ARE PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE," WITH ALL FAULTS AND WITHOUT WARRANTIES OR CONDITIONS OF ANY KIND. EXCEPT AS A SIGNED AGREEMENT OR THE LAW REQUIRES, WE DISCLAIM ALL WARRANTIES, REPRESENTATIONS AND CONDITIONS, EXPRESS, IMPLIED, STATUTORY OR OTHERWISE, INCLUDING MERCHANTABILITY, QUALITY, COMPATIBILITY, TITLE, SECURITY, RELIABILITY, COMPLETENESS, ACCURACY, CURRENCY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE AND NON-INFRINGEMENT, AND THAT THE RECURSIVE SERVICES WILL BE ERROR-FREE OR UNINTERRUPTED. WE DISCLAIM ALL WARRANTIES ABOUT THIRD-PARTY CONTENT, TOOLS AND SERVICES. RECURSIVE SERVICES MAY BEHAVE UNPREDICTABLY.
Outputs are generated probabilistically and may be inaccurate, incomplete, biased, offensive, insecure or similar to outputs given to others. You must evaluate and verify Outputs before relying on them. Outputs are not legal, medical, financial, security or other professional advice, and we do not warrant that Outputs will not infringe third-party rights.
21. Limitation of Liability
21.1 TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, NEITHER WE NOR OUR PARENTS, SUBSIDIARIES, AFFILIATES, OR OUR AND THEIR OFFICERS, DIRECTORS, SHAREHOLDERS, EMPLOYEES, CONTRACTORS, AGENTS, LICENSORS AND SERVICE PROVIDERS WILL BE LIABLE, WHETHER IN WARRANTY, CONTRACT, TORT, NEGLIGENCE, STRICT LIABILITY OR ANY OTHER THEORY, FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, SPECIAL, EXEMPLARY OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR LOST PROFITS, LOSS OF USE OR LOSS OF DATA, ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO THE RECURSIVE SERVICES OR THESE TERMS, WHETHER OR NOT WE WERE ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY, INCLUDING LOSSES RESULTING FROM ACCESS, USE OR DISCLOSURE OF CUSTOMER DATA BY US OR OUR SERVICE PROVIDERS AS THESE TERMS PERMIT, OR FROM INFORMATION REPRODUCED BY A PUBLISHED MODEL.
21.2 TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, OUR TOTAL AGGREGATE LIABILITY ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO THE RECURSIVE SERVICES OR THESE TERMS WILL NOT EXCEED US$100. THE EXISTENCE OF MORE THAN ONE CLAIM DOES NOT INCREASE THIS AMOUNT. IF YOU ARE DISSATISFIED WITH ANY PART OF THE RECURSIVE SERVICES, YOUR SOLE AND EXCLUSIVE REMEDY IS TO STOP USING THEM.
21.3 These limits reflect that much of the Recursive Services is free. Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability that cannot be excluded or limited under applicable law. We are not liable for any delay or failure caused by events beyond our reasonable control.
22. Indemnification
To the extent permitted by law, you will defend, indemnify and hold harmless Recursive, its affiliates and their officers, directors, employees, agents, licensors and service providers from and against any claims, demands, losses, damages, fines, penalties and costs, including reasonable legal fees, arising out of or in connection with: (a) your use of the Recursive Services, including use by anyone using your account (except to the extent prohibited by law); (b) your breach of these Terms or any document referenced in them; (c) your violation of any law or third-party right, including intellectual property rights; (d) your Customer Data, including our use of it as these Terms permit; or (e) any viruses, malware or other harmful code you put into the Recursive Services. We may, at our election, assume the exclusive defense and control of any matter subject to indemnification, and you will cooperate. You may not settle a claim in a way that imposes obligations on us without our consent. This Section survives termination.
23. Governing Law and Disputes
23.1 Governing law. Except as restricted by applicable law, these Terms and any dispute arising from them are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, without regard to conflict-of-law rules, regardless of where you are located. You will use the Recursive Services only where they may lawfully be used.
23.2 Informal resolution. Before starting any formal proceeding, contact legal@recursive.com and give us 30 days to try to resolve the dispute.
23.3 Arbitration. Except as stated in 23.5, any dispute that is not resolved informally will be resolved by final and binding arbitration administered by JAMS under its rules, before one arbitrator, in English, seated in San Francisco, CA Judgment on the award may be entered in any court of competent jurisdiction.
23.4 Individual claims only. To the fullest extent permitted by law, each party may bring claims only on an individual basis and not as a plaintiff or class member in any class, collective or representative action.
23.5 Exceptions and opt-out. Either party may (a) bring an individual claim in small-claims court, and (b) seek injunctive relief in any appropriate court for infringement or misuse of intellectual property or confidential information. You may opt out of arbitration and the class waiver within 30 days of first accepting these Terms by emailing legal@recursive.com with the subject line "Arbitration Opt-Out." If you opt out, or if Sections 23.3 and 23.4 are found unenforceable, disputes will be brought exclusively in the courts located in San Francisco County the City of San Francisco, California, and each party consents to that jurisdiction.
23.6 Local law. If you are a consumer or are located in the European Union, the United Kingdom or another jurisdiction whose mandatory laws give you rights that cannot be waived, this Section 23 does not take away those rights, including any right to bring proceedings in the courts of your country of residence, and the mandatory consumer-protection laws of your country continue to apply.
24. General
24.1 Entire agreement. These Terms, the Privacy Policy, the Acceptable Use Policy, the Responsible Use Guidelines and any signed agreement or additional terms that apply to you are the entire agreement between you and us about the Recursive Services and replace earlier communications on the subject. If they conflict, Section 1.4 applies, except that the Privacy Policy controls on how personal data is handled.
24.2 Waiver; severability. Our failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver, and a waiver must be in writing. If a provision is unenforceable, the rest remain in effect.
24.3 Assignment. You may not assign these Terms without our written consent. We may assign them, or any rights under them, without your consent, including in connection with a merger, acquisition or sale of assets. Any attempted assignment in breach of this Section is void.
24.4 Notices. We may notify you under Section 16. Legal notices to us go to legal@recursive.com and at the mailing address below.
24.5 Relationship; third parties. The parties are independent contractors. There are no third-party beneficiaries, except that our licensors and affiliates may enforce Sections 20 to 22.
24.6 Language. The English version of these Terms controls. Translations are provided for convenience.

Recursive Model Data & Privacy Practices
Last updated October 21, 2026
Recursive Superintelligence, Inc. (“Recursive”) makes our artificial intelligence models (our “Models”) available for use on third-party platforms (each, a “Platform”). On this page, we explain how we handle data we receive when you interact with one of our Models on a Platform. To learn more about how we handle personal data when you visit our website, please review our Website Privacy Policy.
Use of our Models is subject to the Recursive Terms of Use and Acceptable Use Policy, as well as the terms governing use of any Platform from which you interact with our Models.
Data Collection
When you use a Platform to interact with our Models, we receive the prompt, query and other content you provide as the input, such as files, images, audio, video, code, any other data you choose include (collectively, “Inputs”).
A Platform may provide us with limited usage and analytics data together with your Input, such as the time of your Input and associated token usage. In certain circumstances, we may also receive limited information about your browser or device, such as a truncated version of your IP address and the type of browser or device that you’re using to interact with the Platform and our Model.
Platforms do not share your account information, contact information, or identifiers that reveal your real-life identity or enable us to contact you. We ask that you avoid including personally identifying information or contact information in your Inputs. We also use filtering and sanitizing tools provided by Platforms to remove identifiers and contact information from Inputs before we receive them.
Data Use and Retention
We use the Inputs and information we receive to run your queries through our Models and deliver responses and the resulting output to you (collectively “Outputs”).
We may also use the information we receive to detect and prevent fraud, illegal activity, and misuse of our Models and to protect security as well as to comply with legal obligations and to protect rights and safety.
If your Platform settings permit, we may use Inputs and Outputs to train and improve our Models and other products we develop. Please review the options and settings available to you on the Platforms you use. Recursive honors the controls and signals communicated to us from Platforms.
We retain the information we receive and generate, including Inputs and Outputs, for the duration necessary to perform your requests we receive through Platforms, and we may retain it for additional periods to complete abuse and similar safety monitoring. Where signals from the Platforms permits model training, we may retain Inputs and Outputs for the period reasonably necessary to train and improve our Models and other products we develop.
We do not use your Inputs, Outputs, or other data we receive to build profiles or track activity over time and we do not use any data we receive to identify you.
Data Disclosures
We do not sell the data we receive and we do not use it for advertising purposes.
We may disclose certain data we receive, including Inputs and Outputs, to vendors contractually engaged to perform services on our behalf, such as those that provide cloud storage.
In limited circumstances, we may provide data we receive to government authorities and other third parties in compliance with law to detect and prevent fraud, illegal activity, and misuse of our Models and to protect security, as well as to comply with legal obligations and to protect rights and safety.
Your Controls
Recursive honors the controls and signals communicated to us from Platforms that make our Models available to you. For example, if you have interacted with a Platform to block use of your Inputs and Outputs for AI training and the Platform communicates this signal to us, we will not use your Inputs or Outputs to train or improve our Models. Please review the choices and controls offered to you by the Platforms you use.
Children and Minors
We do not knowingly accept Inputs from individuals under the age of 18 and our Terms of Use provide that you must be at least 18 to use our Models.

Recursive Acceptable Use Policy
Last updated October 21, 2026
The short version
Build freely, take responsibility. You are responsible for what you build and how people use it. We care, so a few things are never allowed, such as child sexual abuse material, weapons that can kill many people, and attacks on people, critical systems, or their intellectual property. The rest of this page covers using Recursive responsibly and what happens if something goes wrong.
Questions? safety@recursive.com
Recursive builds AI to speed up discovery and to put powerful, open models in developers' hands. This policy explains what you may not do with our websites, software, and hosted services (including our APIs and hosted models), together the "Recursive Services." It is part of our Terms of Use at https://www.recursive.com/legal/modelterms#terms (the "Terms"), and words in capital letters mean what they mean there.
What we believe
Build freely, take responsibility. You decide what to build. You answer for how it is used, including by your end users.
Hard lines where harm is serious. Some uses are banned with no exceptions.
Open where it helps. We support security research, red-teaming, public-sector and defense work, and open-source release. Our rules are specific, not blanket bans.
Fair and transparent. We explain how we enforce this policy, let you appeal, and warn you before big changes.
Who and what this covers
Everyone, every use. This policy applies to anyone using the Recursive Services, including people using your account or your applications.
Open-source releases are separate. Model weights, software, and other materials we release under open-source licenses are governed only by those licenses, not by this policy. We may publish non-binding guidance on responsible use, for example in a model card. Our hosted version of a model still follows this policy.
Indirect counts too. You cannot do something this policy bans by asking others to do it, helping them, letting them, or using automation or agents. The lists below are examples, not complete lists, and we may treat uses of comparable risk the same way.
"No exceptions." Rules marked this way are never excused, including through the Exceptions section.
Minors. In this policy, a "minor" is anyone under 18, or older where the local age of adulthood is higher.
Other agreements. This policy applies on top of the Terms of Use https://www.recursive.com/legal/modelterms#terms. A written agreement signed by us can add to or tailor these rules, but only if it expressly refers to this policy.
Child safety and sexual exploitation
No exceptions. No child sexual abuse material (including AI-generated or fictional), sexualizing minors, grooming, sextortion, or non-consensual intimate imagery. When we learn of it, we report apparent child sexual abuse material we identify to the authorities and end access immediately.
Violence, weapons, and extremism
No exceptions. No chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear, or other mass-casualty weapons, or help to anyone building them. No terrorism, violent extremism, trafficking, or sexual violence.
Cyber and security
No exceptions for attacks. No malware, ransomware, unauthorized access, denial-of-service, credential theft, or attacks on critical infrastructure.
Security research is welcome. Test only systems you own or are authorized to test. Act in good faith, collect only what you need, and do not disrupt the Recursive Services. Report findings to security@recursive.com and allow us at least 90 days to respond and/or address your findings before going public. If you follow these rules, we will not suspend your account or take legal action against you for that research; provided that you do not publish false or misleading statements, though we cannot speak for third parties. Research never permits child sexual abuse material or real help toward mass-casualty weapons. You may not test our systems beyond the documented API without our written permission.
Harassment, hate, and discrimination
No threats, stalking, harassment, or doxxing. No hatred or violence based on traits such as race, religion, gender, caste, disability, or serious illness. No discriminatory hiring, credit, housing, or essential-services decisions.
Self-harm and well-being
No content that promotes or instructs suicide, self-harm, or disordered eating.
Fraud, deception, and impersonation
No scams, phishing, spam, fake reviews, forged documents, or fake accounts. No impersonating people or organizations, including their likeness or voice. No manipulative techniques that cause harm.
Elections and civic processes
No voting misinformation, voter suppression, impersonating officials, interfering with election systems, astroturfing, or undisclosed synthetic political ads where disclosure is required. Political speech and advocacy are fine.
Privacy, surveillance, and biometrics
No unlawful surveillance or tracking, facial-recognition databases scraped from the internet or CCTV, or real-time biometric identification in public spaces for law enforcement (unless the law permits). No sorting people by sensitive traits using biometrics, inferring emotions at work or school (except for medical or safety reasons), social scoring, or predicting crime from profiling alone. No collecting sensitive personal information without a lawful basis, or cloning a voice or likeness without consent.
Restricted-region inputs. Depending on where the Recursive Services are offered, you may not submit, upload, or otherwise input information that originates from, relates to, or identifies (directly or indirectly) any individual resident in a region where we use measures to restrict access to the Recursive Services, including any region we identify in our Terms of Use or otherwise. Check before submitting personal data from outside a supported region.
Illegal activity and other people's rights
No breaking the law, infringing intellectual property, privacy, or publicity rights, practicing a licensed profession without a license, trafficking illegal drugs or weapons, or evading sanctions or export controls. No submitting, processing, or disseminating material non-public information in violation of applicable securities laws, and no using the Recursive Services to commit or facilitate insider trading, market manipulation, or other securities fraud.
High-stakes decisions and safety-critical use
Decisions with legal or similarly significant effects on people (jobs, credit, housing, insurance, healthcare, benefits, immigration, law enforcement, legal rights) need meaningful human review. Do not present outputs as licensed medical, legal, or financial advice. Summarizing, drafting, and coding are fine.
No exceptions: do not control energy, water, transportation, public-safety systems, or heavy machinery without qualified human control. Other safety-critical uses need human oversight and independent safeguards.
If you build a high-risk AI system under the EU AI Act, you are responsible for your own compliance. Our models do not prove it.
Defense and public sector
Lawful defense, national-security, and public-sector use is allowed, subject to this policy, export-control and sanctions law, and humanitarian law. No autonomous weapons that select and attack people without meaningful human control, and no mass surveillance. We may require a written agreement that adds or tailors restrictions. Every "no exceptions" rule still applies.
Agents and automation
You are responsible for your agents. Keep the ability to monitor and stop them, limit their permissions, and require human approval for consequential or irreversible actions. Use them only with authorization, do not hide that they are automated, and do not use them to defeat CAPTCHAs, rate limits, robots.txt, or other sites' terms, or to get around this policy.
Honesty about AI
Tell people when they are talking to AI, and label AI-generated content where the law requires (including Article 50 of the EU AI Act). Do not remove our watermarks or labels. Do not pass off outputs as human-made to deceive, misstate which model powers your product, or imply we endorse it.
Our safeguards and systems
Do not evade our filters, monitoring, or bans (for example by encoding, splitting requests, or opening new accounts), except for the research allowed above. Do not attack our systems or other users.
If you build on Recursive
You are responsible for your application and your end users. Bind them to terms at least as protective as this policy, detect and stop violations in proportion to risk, handle abuse reports, and answer our reasonable requests. Tell users about known material limits of your application.
Minors. Our accounts are for adults only. If minors use or are targeted by your application, you handle age checks, parental consent, moderation, and privacy as the law requires (for example COPPA, the GDPR, and the UK Children's Code), and keep them from harmful content. Companion-style or open-ended chat needs a suicide and self-harm protocol with crisis referrals, and compliance with laws such as California's SB 243.
Reporting. Report child sexual abuse material you find to the authorities and to us. Tell us as promptly as possible, at abuse@recursive.com, about misuse causing or likely to cause death, serious injury, or large-scale harm, or a security incident involving our models or your data with us.
How we enforce this policy
Monitoring. We may use automated systems and, where needed, human review by authorized personnel of Customer Data and Usage Data in our efforts to detect violations, as the Terms and Privacy Policy describe. We do not review everything, and our inaction does not constitute our approval.
Steps. We may warn you, limit features, remove content, suspend or end access, and bar re-registration. For "no exceptions" violations or imminent harm, we may act immediately without notice. Otherwise, where practical and lawful, we will use reasonable efforts to give you notice and reasonable time to fix the problem. We may report suspected illegal activity to authorities, and must report apparent child sexual abuse material we identify.
Appeals. Write to appeals@recursive.com within 30 days. Someone not involved in the decision will review it, and we aim to reply within 30 days. Restrictions may stay in place during review for safety.
Reports and exceptions. Report violations to abuse@recursive.com. We do not retaliate against good-faith reports. If a legitimate use (research, journalism, healthcare, defense) is blocked, write to safety@recursive.com. Exceptions apply only if confirmed in writing, never to a "no exceptions" rule.
Changes to this policy
We update this policy at any time, including as risks, laws, and our services change. We keep earlier versions linkable from this page. We endeavor to give at least 14 days notice of material new restrictions; provided that clarifications, narrowing changes, and changes needed for legal, safety, compliance with our third party providers’ requirements, or security reasons take effect when posted. Continuing to use the Recursive Services means you accept the change.
